Scale Overview
The Commentary Interpretation Scale – CIS was developed by Wood, K. C., Altabe, M., & Thompson, J. K. (1998). It is designed to measure Interpretation bias of ambiguous commentary. The scale is intended for use with Adults.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 16 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Very Positive, 2 = Somewhat Positive, 3 = Neutral, 4 = Somewhat Negative, 5 = Very Negative.
Scoring
Item scores are averaged to produce a mean score.
Total scores range from 1 to 5. Interpretation guidelines:
- Positive Interpretation Bias: 1 – 2
- Neutral Interpretation: 2 – 3
- Negative Interpretation Bias: 3 – 5
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 5 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
