Scale Overview
The Cognitive and Behavioral Outcomes of Sexual Behavior Scale – CBOSBS was developed by Kimberly R. McBride, Michael Reece, Stephanie A. Sanders (2007). It is designed to measure Negative outcomes of sexual behavior / Sexual compulsivity. The scale is intended for use with Adults.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 36 items organized into 2 factors/subscales: Cognitive Outcomes, Behavioral Outcomes.

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 0 = Never (Part 1) / No (Part 2), 1 = Sometimes (Part 1) / Yes (Part 2), 2 = Often (Part 1), 3 = Always (Part 1).
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 0 to 76. Interpretation guidelines:
- Total Score Range (Scores meeting or exceeding the 80th percentile of the reference sample indicate a threshold for clinically relevant sexual compulsivity outcomes): 0 – 76
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Cognitive subscale α = .89, Behavioral subscale α = .75.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
