Scale Development & Technical Details
Scale Overview
The Circumplex Scales of Interpersonal Efficacy – CSIE was developed by Kenneth D. Locke (2007). It is designed to measure Interpersonal Self-Efficacy. The scale is intended for use with Adults.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 32 items organized into 8 factors/subscales: Agentic (PA), Agentic & Uncommunal (BC), Uncommunal (DE), Unagentic & Uncommunal (FG), Unagentic (HI), Unagentic & Communal (JK), Communal (LM), Agentic & Communal (NO).
| Factor / Subscale | Items | N |
|---|---|---|
| Agentic (PA) | 4,12,20,28 | 4 |
| Agentic & Uncommunal (BC) | 7,15,23,31 | 4 |
| Uncommunal (DE) | 2,10,18,26 | 4 |
| Unagentic & Uncommunal (FG) | 5,13,21,29 | 4 |
| Unagentic (HI) | 8,16,24,32 | 4 |
| Unagentic & Communal (JK) | 3,11,19,27 | 4 |
| Communal (LM) | 6,14,22,30 | 4 |
| Agentic & Communal (NO) | 1,9,17,25 | 4 |
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 0 = Not at all confident, 1 = , 2 = Mildly confident, 3 = , 4 = , 5 = Moderately confident, 6 = , 7 = , 8 = Very confident, 9 = , 10 = Absolutely confident.
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from 0 to 40. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Efficacy: 0 – 13
- Moderate Efficacy: 14 – 26
- High Efficacy: 27 – 40
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Adequate internal reliability.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 5 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
