Scale Overview
The Children’s Attributional Style Questionnaire – Revised (CASQ-R) was developed by Thompson, M., Kaslow, N. J., Weiss, B., & Nolen-Hoeksema, S. (1998). It is designed to measure Attributional Style. The scale is intended for use with Children and adolescents.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 24 items organized into 6 factors/subscales: Positive Internality, Positive Stability, Positive Globality, Negative Internality, Negative Stability, Negative Globality.

Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from -12 to 12. Interpretation guidelines:
- Pessimistic Attributional Style: -12 – 0
- Optimistic Attributional Style: 1 – 12
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Internal consistency ranges from 0.61 to 0.73 for composite scales.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
