Scale Overview
The Change Questionnaire was developed by Amanda E. Brody (2008). It is designed to measure Motivation and Ambivalence for Change. The scale is intended for use with Adolescents and adults undergoing clinical or behavioral interventions.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 51 items organized into 3 factors/subscales: Reasons for Wanting to Make the Change, Reasons for Not Wanting to Make the Change, Feelings About the Change.

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 0 = Applies to me little or not at all / Not at all, 1 = Applies to me somewhat (Low) / Moderately (Low), 2 = Applies to me somewhat (High) / Moderately (High), 3 = Applies to me very much (Low) / Strongly (Low), 4 = Applies to me very much (High) / Strongly (High), 5 = Strongly (Maximum – Part 3 only).
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from 0 to 215. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Motivation / Ambivalence: 0 – 76
- Moderate Motivation / Ambivalence: 77 – 152
- High Motivation / Ambivalence: 153 – 215
