Scale Overview
The Caregiver Quality of Life Index-Cancer – CQOLC was developed by M. A. Weitzner, P. B. Jacobsen, H. Wagner Jr., J. Friedland, C. Cox (1999). It is designed to measure Caregiver Quality of Life. The scale is intended for use with Family caregivers of cancer patients.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 35 items organized into 4 factors/subscales: Burden, Personal Well-Being, Financial Well-Being, Adaptability.

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 0 = Not at all, 1 = A little, 2 = Somewhat, 3 = Quite a bit, 4 = Very much.
The scale includes 11 reverse-scored items to reduce acquiescence bias.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 0 to 140. Interpretation guidelines:
- Lower Quality of Life: 0 – 70
- Higher Quality of Life: 71 – 140
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Acceptable.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
