Scale Overview
The Career Commitment Scale – CCS was developed by Gary Blau (1989). It is designed to measure Career Commitment. The scale is intended for use with Working adults and professionals.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 7 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Strongly agree, 2 = Agree, 3 = Unsure, 4 = Disagree, 5 = Strongly disagree.
The scale includes 3 reverse-scored items to reduce acquiescence bias.
Scoring
Item scores are averaged to produce a mean score.
Total scores range from 1 to 5. Interpretation guidelines:
- High Commitment (assuming standard scoring where lower scores indicate higher commitment): 1 – 2
- Moderate Commitment: 2 – 3
- Low Commitment: 3 – 5
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Cronbach's alpha: .76 to .88.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 3 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
