Scale Overview
The Botvin Life Skills Training Assertiveness Scale (LST-AS) was developed by Gilbert J. Botvin, Eli Baker, Linda Dusenbury, Stephanie Tortu, & Elizabeth Botvin (1990). It is designed to measure Assertiveness. The scale is intended for use with Adolescents.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 9 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Definitely would not, 2 = Probably would not, 3 = Not sure, 4 = Probably would, 5 = Definitely would.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 9 to 45. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Assertiveness: 9 – 18
- Moderate Assertiveness: 19 – 35
- High Assertiveness: 36 – 45
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 5 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
