Scale Overview
The Big Five Inventory for Children – BFI-C was developed by Jennifer Simonds, Oliver P. John, Sanjay Srivastava (2006). It is designed to measure Big Five Personality Traits. The scale is intended for use with Children and adolescents.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 43 items organized into 5 factors/subscales: Extraversion, Agreeableness, Conscientiousness, Neuroticism, Openness.

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Disagree A Lot, 2 = Disagree A Little, 3 = Neutral, 4 = Agree A Little, 5 = Agree A Lot.
The scale includes 16 reverse-scored items to reduce acquiescence bias.
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from 1 to 5. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Trait Level: 1 – 2
- Moderate Trait Level: 3 – 3
- High Trait Level: 4 – 5
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
