Scale Overview
The Belief in the Powers of Mindfulness Scale – BPMS was developed by Masoumeh Rahmani, Valerie van Mulukom, Miguel Farias (2023). It is designed to measure Beliefs about the transformative powers of mindfulness. The scale is intended for use with Adults.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 9 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: -2.5 = Strongly disagree, -1.5 = Disagree, -0.5 = Somewhat disagree, 0.5 = Somewhat agree, 1.5 = Agree, 2.5 = Strongly agree.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from -22 to 22. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low belief in the powers of mindfulness: -22 – -7
- Moderate belief in the powers of mindfulness: -7 – 7
- High belief in the powers of mindfulness: 7 – 22
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Cronbach's alpha: 0.89, McDonald's omega: 0.89.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 3 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
