Scale Development & Technical Details
Scale Overview
The Basic Life Support and Resuscitation-Related Situation and Attitudes Questionnaire (BLS-SAQ) was developed by Gradvohl, E., Lukács, Á. J., Takács, J., Fritúz, G., Falus, A., & Feith, H. J. (2023). It is designed to measure Attitudes and willingness toward basic life support and resuscitation. The scale is intended for use with Adolescents (primary and secondary school students).
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 8 items organized into 2 factors/subscales: Situation, Attitude.
| Factor / Subscale | Items | N |
|---|---|---|
| Situation | 1 | 1 |
| Attitude | 2,3,4,5,6,7,8 | 7 |
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a 5-point Likert scale (1 = Strongly Disagree to 5 = Strongly Agree).
The scale includes 2 reverse-scored items to reduce acquiescence bias.
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from 8 to 40. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low readiness/negative attitude toward providing BLS: 8 – 24
- Moderate readiness/neutral attitude toward providing BLS: 25 – 32
- High readiness/positive attitude toward providing BLS: 33 – 40
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Test-retest reliability reported (6 attitude items had moderate positive correlation, 1 strong, 1 non-significant).
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 3 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
