Scale Overview
The Barriers to Specialty Alcohol Treatment Scale – BSAT was developed by Pinedo, M., Castro, Y., Gilbert, P. A., Caetano, R., & Zemore, S. E. (2023). It is designed to measure Barriers to specialty alcohol treatment. The scale is intended for use with Adults with a recent Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD) diagnosis.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 36 items organized into 7 factors/subscales: Low problem recognition, Recovery goals, Low perceived treatment efficacy, Cultural factors, Immigration-related concerns, Perceived lack of social support, Logistical barriers.

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a 5-point Likert scale (1 = Strongly Disagree to 5 = Strongly Agree).
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Cronbach's alpha ranging from 0.82 to 0.93 for subscales.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 13 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
