Scale Overview
The Bardis Religion Scale was developed by Panos D. Bardis (1961). It is designed to measure Religiosity. The scale is intended for use with General population.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 25 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 0 = strongly disagree, 1 = disagree, 2 = undecided, 3 = agree, 4 = strongly agree.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 0 to 100. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Religiosity: 0 – 33
- Moderate Religiosity: 34 – 66
- High Religiosity: 67 – 100
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of 0.74 – 0.98 (split-half reliability across various samples).
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 8 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
