The Attitudes Toward Rape Victims Scale – ARVS was developed by Colleen Ward (1992). It is designed to measure Attitudes toward rape victims. The scale is intended for use with Adults.

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Disagree strongly, 2 = Disagree mildly, 3 = Neutral (neither agree nor disagree), 4 = Agree mildly, 5 = Agree strongly.
The scale includes 33 reverse-scored items to reduce acquiescence bias.
Scoring
Item scores are averaged to produce a mean score.
Total scores range from 1 to 5. Interpretation guidelines:
- Highly unfavorable/victim-blaming attitudes: 1 – 2
- Moderate/neutral attitudes: 2 – 3
- Highly favorable/supportive attitudes: 3 – 5
