Scale Overview
The Attitudes About HIV/AIDS for Hispanic College Students was developed by Raffy R. Luquis, Patricia Barthalow Koch (1991). It is designed to measure HIV/AIDS Attitudes. The scale is intended for use with College students.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 26 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Strongly Agree, 2 = Agree, 3 = Uncertain, 4 = Disagree, 5 = Strongly Disagree.
The scale includes 14 reverse-scored items to reduce acquiescence bias.
Scoring
Item scores are averaged to produce a mean score.
Total scores range from 26 to 130. Interpretation guidelines:
- Negative Attitudes: 26 – 64
- Neutral/Uncertain Attitudes: 65 – 91
- Positive Attitudes: 92 – 130
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of 0.85.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
