Scale Overview
The Attitude Toward the Provision of Long-Term Care – ATPLTC was developed by Waldo C. Klein (1992). It is designed to measure Attitude toward family caregiving and long-term care. The scale is intended for use with Adults / Family caregivers.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 26 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Strongly agree, 2 = Moderately agree, 3 = Neither agree nor disagree, 4 = Moderately disagree, 5 = Strongly disagree.
The scale includes 11 reverse-scored items to reduce acquiescence bias.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 26 to 130. Interpretation guidelines:
- Strong agreement with family caregiving: 26 – 60
- Neutral/Moderate attitude toward family caregiving: 61 – 95
- Strong disagreement with family caregiving: 96 – 130

Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
