Scale Overview
The Attitude toward Evangelism Scale was developed by Seyfarth, L. H., Larsen, K. S., Lamont, K., Haasch, C., Hale, T., & Haskin, D. (1984). It is designed to measure Attitude toward evangelism. The scale is intended for use with Adults.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 21 items organized into 4 factors/subscales: Factor 1: Respect for the courage to stand up for one’s beliefs, Factor 2: Interpersonal approach, Factor 3: Unidentified, Factor 4: Unidentified.

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a 5-point Likert scale (1 = Strongly Disagree to 5 = Strongly Agree).
The scale includes 7 reverse-scored items to reduce acquiescence bias.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 21 to 105. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low openness to evangelism: 21 – 48
- Moderate openness to evangelism: 49 – 77
- High openness to evangelism: 78 – 105
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of 0.91.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
