Scale Overview
The Attitude Toward Conflict Scale – ATC was developed by Jenny A. Lam (1989). It is designed to measure Attitude toward violence in conflict resolution. The scale is intended for use with Adolescents / School-aged children (Sixth grade students).
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 8 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Strongly disagree, 2 = Disagree, 3 = Neither, 4 = Agree, 5 = Strongly agree.
The scale includes 5 reverse-scored items to reduce acquiescence bias.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 8 to 32. Interpretation guidelines:
- Strong negative attitude toward using violence: 8 – 19
- Strong favorable attitude toward using violence: 20 – 32
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 5 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
