Scale Overview
The Assessing Your Body Image Scale was developed by Bryan Strong & Barbara W. Sayad (1999). It is designed to measure Body Image Dissatisfaction. The scale is intended for use with Adults.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 12 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 0 = Never, 1 = Sometimes, 2 = Often, 3 = Always.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 0 to 36. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low body image dissatisfaction: 0 – 12
- Moderate body image dissatisfaction: 13 – 24
- High body image dissatisfaction: 25 – 36
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 5 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
