Scale Overview
The Aspirations Index (AI) was developed by Tim Kasser & Richard M. Ryan (1996). It is designed to measure Intrinsic and Extrinsic Aspirations. The scale is intended for use with Adults and adolescents.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 42 items organized into 7 factors/subscales: Self-Acceptance, Affiliation, Community Feeling, Physical Fitness, Financial Success, Attractive Appearance, Social Recognition.

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Not at all / Very low, 2 = A little / Low, 3 = So/So / 50/50, 4 = Pretty important / High, 5 = Very important / Very high.
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from 1 to 5. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Importance / Likelihood: 1 – 2
- Moderate Importance / Likelihood: 3 – 3
- High Importance / Likelihood: 4 – 5

Administration
