Scale Overview
The Anticipated Sexual Jealousy Scale (ASJS) was developed by Bram Buunk (1982). It is designed to measure Anticipated Sexual Jealousy. The scale is intended for use with Adults in relationships.

This instrument consists of 5 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Extremely pleased, 2 = Very pleased, 3 = Fairly pleased, 4 = Somewhat pleased, 5 = Neutral, 6 = Somewhat bothered, 7 = Fairly bothered, 8 = Very bothered, 9 = Extremely bothered.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 5 to 45. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low anticipated jealousy: 5 – 15
- Moderate anticipated jealousy: 16 – 34
- High anticipated jealousy: 35 – 45
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Cronbach's alpha between .90 and .94.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 2 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
