Scale Overview
The Anti-LGBTQ+ Attitudes Scale – ALAS was developed by Rafael Ballester-Arnal, Juan E. Nebot-Garcia, Marcel Elipe-Miravet, EstefanÃa Ruiz-Palomino, M. Dolores Gil-Llario (2024). It is designed to measure Anti-LGBTQ+ Attitudes. The scale is intended for use with Adults.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 33 items organized into 2 factors/subscales: Positive Attitudes, Negative Attitudes.

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a 5-point Likert scale (1 = Strongly Disagree to 5 = Strongly Agree).
The scale includes 9 reverse-scored items to reduce acquiescence bias.
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from 33 to 165. Interpretation guidelines:
- Very Low Anti-LGBTQ+ Attitudes: 33 – 65
- Low Anti-LGBTQ+ Attitudes: 66 – 99
- Moderate Anti-LGBTQ+ Attitudes: 100 – 132
- High Anti-LGBTQ+ Attitudes: 133 – 165
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of .879 to .929.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
