Scale Overview
The Antenatal Risk Questionnaire – ANRQ was developed by Marie-Paule Austin, Sally Kildea, Elizabeth Sullivan (2011). It is designed to measure Perinatal psychosocial risk factors. The scale is intended for use with Pregnant women (antenatal).
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 14 items organized into 7 factors/subscales: Childhood Experience, Mental Health History, Partner Support, Recent Stressors, Personality Traits, Social Support, History of Abuse.

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: Yes = Yes, No = No, 1 = Very much / Not at all, 3 = Somewhat, 5 = Not at all / Very much.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 0 to 62. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low psychosocial risk: 0 – 22
- High psychosocial risk (further assessment recommended): 23 – 62

Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Not specified.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 5 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
