Scale Overview
The Anorexia Nervosa Stages of Change Questionnaire – ANSOC-Q was developed by Rieger, E., Touyz, S., Schotte, D., Beumont, P., Russell, J., Clarke, S., Kohn, M., & Griffiths, R. (2000). It is designed to measure Readiness to recover in anorexia nervosa. The scale is intended for use with Individuals diagnosed with or showing symptoms of Anorexia Nervosa.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 19 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Statement A (Precontemplation), 2 = Statement B (Contemplation), 3 = Statement C (Preparation), 4 = Statement D (Action), 5 = Statement E (Maintenance).
Scoring
Item scores are averaged to produce a mean score.
Total scores range from 1 to 5. Interpretation guidelines:
- Precontemplation Stage: 1 – 1
- Contemplation Stage: 2 – 2
- Preparation Stage: 3 – 3
- Action Stage: 4 – 4
- Maintenance Stage: 5 – 5
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of High internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha typically > 0.90).
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 15 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
