Scale Overview
The AIMSS Abusive Supervision Scale – AIMSS AS Scale was developed by Sümer, H. Canan; Göncü-Köse, Aslı; Toker-Gültaş, Yonca; Acar, F. Pınar; Karanfil, Derya; Ok, A. Başak (2024). It is designed to measure Abusive Supervision. The scale is intended for use with Working adults.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 26 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Never, 2 = Rarely, 3 = Sometimes, 4 = Often, 5 = Almost always.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 26 to 130. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Abusive Supervision: 26 – 52
- Moderate Abusive Supervision: 53 – 91
- High Abusive Supervision: 92 – 130
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Cronbach's alpha = .97 (full scale), .95 (short form).
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 6 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
