The Adult Autism Spectrum Quotient – AQ-10 was developed by Allison C., Auyeung B., and Baron-Cohen S. (2012). It is designed to measure Autism spectrum traits. The scale is intended for use with Adults.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 10 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: Definitely Agree = Definitely Agree, Slightly Agree = Slightly Agree, Slightly Disagree = Slightly Disagree, Definitely Disagree = Definitely Disagree.
The scale includes 6 reverse-scored items to reduce acquiescence bias.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 0 to 10. Interpretation guidelines:
- Below threshold for referral: 0 – 6
- Above threshold (consider referral for specialist diagnostic assessment): 7 – 10
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 3 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
