Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 36 items organized into 5 factors/subscales: Knowledge of Action Possibilities, Willingness to Act, Confidence in One’s Own Influence, Sustainability Actions, Sustainability Behaviors.
| Factor / Subscale | Items | N |
|---|---|---|
| Knowledge of Action Possibilities | 1,2,3,4 | 4 |
| Willingness to Act | 5,6,7,8 | 4 |
| Confidence in One's Own Influence | 9,10,11,12 | 4 |

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Strongly disagree (Items 1-12) / Never (Items 13-36, coded 0), 2 = Disagree (Items 1-12) / Rarely (Items 13-36, coded 1), 3 = Neither agree nor disagree (Items 1-12) / Sometimes (Items 13-36, coded 2), 4 = Agree (Items 1-12) / Frequently (Items 13-36, coded 3), 5 = Strongly agree (Items 1-12) / Very frequently (Items 13-36, coded 4).
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from 12 to 156. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Sustainability Engagement: 12 – 60
- Moderate Sustainability Engagement: 61 – 110
- High Sustainability Engagement: 111 – 156
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Omega coefficients ranged from .756 to .964.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
