Scale Overview
The Acquired Brain Injury-Related Sexuality Measure – ABI-RSM was developed by Ann-Sofie Ek, Charlotta Holmström, & Eva Elmerstig (2023). It is designed to measure Sexuality and sexual rehabilitation after acquired brain injury. The scale is intended for use with Adults (18+) with acquired brain injury.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 19 items organized into 4 factors/subscales: Information and Counseling, Relationships and Social Impact, Importance of Sexuality and Intimacy, Partner Communication and Acceptance.

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Not at all / No / Disagree, 2 = Low degree, 3 = Slight degree, 4 = Moderate degree, 5 = High degree, 6 = Very high degree / Yes / Agree.
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Cronbach's alpha: Cognitive functions (0.859), Sexual functions (0.818-0.855), Importance of sexuality and intimacy (0.779), Partner's acceptance and communication (0.830), Orgasm and satisfaction (0.870).
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
