Scale Overview
The Academic Self-Efficacy Scale – ASES was developed by Peter Muris (2001). It is designed to measure Academic Self-Efficacy. The scale is intended for use with Youth and adolescents.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 8 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Not Very Well, 2 = Slightly Well, 3 = Moderately Well, 4 = Well, 5 = Very Well.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 8 to 40. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Academic Self-Efficacy: 8 – 18
- Moderate Academic Self-Efficacy: 19 – 29
- High Academic Self-Efficacy: 30 – 40
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 3 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
