Scale Overview
The 10 Item Attachment Scales – Brennan & Shaver (1995) was developed by Brennan, Shaver & Hazan (1995). It is designed to measure Adult Attachment. The scale is intended for use with Adults.

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Disagree strongly, 2 = Disagree, 3 = Disagree slightly, 4 = Neutral / Mixed, 5 = Agree slightly, 6 = Agree, 7 = Agree strongly.
The scale includes 4 reverse-scored items to reduce acquiescence bias.
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from 10 to 70. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low: 10 – 30
- Moderate: 31 – 50
- High: 51 – 70
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Adequate internal reliability.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 5 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
