De ‘Functional Status Index’ (FSI) is ontworpen in 1977 als deel van een evaluatiecomponent in het “Pilot Geriatric Arthritis Program”. In 1980 is deze vragenlijst door de auteur AM Jette beschreven onder de naam ‘Jette Functional Status Index’. De vragenlijst bestaat uit 18 specifieke vragen over dagelijkse activiteiten van de afgelopen 7 dagen en meet het functionele niveau van patiënten met artrose/artritis. De FSI is een evaluatief meetinstrument waarmee de mate van afhankelijkheid (anderen of hulpmiddelen), de pijnintensiteit en de ervaren moeite bij het uitvoeren van dagelijkse activiteiten gemeten wordt.
