The relentless media exposure to idealized, and frequently digitally manipulated, body types creates an unattainable normative benchmark. This pressure leads to excessive social comparison, which heightens dissatisfaction and contributes significantly to the development of distorted perceptions, especially in cultures that highly emphasize thinness, specific aesthetic proportions, or hyper-muscularity as essential markers of health, success, and desirability.
