Scale Overview
The Survey of Unwanted Sexual Attention in University Residences – Section D (SUSAUR-D) was developed by Kathleen V. Cairns & Julie Wright (1993). It is designed to measure Unwanted sexual attention and harassment in residential settings. The scale is intended for use with University students living in residence halls.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 11 items organized into 2 factors/subscales: Environmental Harassment, Personal Harassment.

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 0 = Never, 1 = Rarely, 2 = Sometimes, 3 = Often.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 0 to 33. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Exposure: 0 – 11
- Moderate Exposure: 12 – 22
- High Exposure: 23 – 33

Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Not reported.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 5 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
