The Sexual Problems Self-Assessment Questionnaire (SPSAQ) was developed by Elizabeth Rae Larson, Malcolm H. McKay (2005). It is designed to measure Sexual and relationship satisfaction. The scale is intended for use with Adults in clinical sex therapy settings.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 52 items organized into 5 factors/subscales: Overall Satisfaction, Socio-Cultural, Political, or Economic Factors, Relationships, Psychological Factors, Physical Factors.

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 0 = No problem / Satisfied, 100 = Severe problem / Dissatisfied.
The scale includes 13 reverse-scored items to reduce acquiescence bias.
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from 0 to 100. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low distress / High satisfaction: 0 – 25
- Mild distress / Moderate satisfaction: 26 – 50
- Moderate distress / Low satisfaction: 51 – 75
- Severe distress / Very low satisfaction: 76 – 100

Administration
