Scale Overview
The Grafenberg Spot/Area and Ejaculation Questionnaire – Pubococcygeus Musculature and Urination Subscale (GSAEQ-PMU) was developed by Carol Anderson Darling, J. Kenneth Davidson, Sr. (1990). It is designed to measure Pubococcygeus muscle awareness and urinary response during sexual activity. The scale is intended for use with Adult women.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 7 items organized into 2 factors/subscales: Pubococcygeus Musculature, Urination Control.
| Factor / Subscale |
Items |
N |
| Pubococcygeus Musculature |
1,5,6,7 |
4 |
| Urination Control |
2,3,4 |
3 |
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a dichotomous Yes/No format.
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from 0 to 7. Interpretation guidelines:
- Total score range (higher scores indicate greater awareness/involvement of pubococcygeus muscles and urinary sensations): 0 – 7
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Not determined.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 5 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
