Scale Overview
The Parenting Self-Efficacy Scale – PSES was developed by Colleen DiIorio (2001). It is designed to measure Parenting Self-Efficacy for Sexuality Communication. The scale is intended for use with Parents of children and adolescents.

This instrument consists of 17 items organized into 2 factors/subscales: Basic Information, Relationship-Based Information.

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Not Sure at all, 2 = 2, 3 = 3, 4 = Moderately Sure, 5 = 5, 6 = 6, 7 = Completely Sure.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 17 to 119. Interpretation guidelines:
- Total Score Range (Higher scores correspond to a higher degree of self-efficacy): 17 – 119
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Cronbach's alpha: .85 (Total Scale), .84 (Basic Information), .67 (Relationship-Based Information).
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
