The Brief Mood Introspection Scale – BMIS was developed by John D. Mayer & Y. N. Gaschke (1988). It is designed to measure Mood state (Pleasant-Unpleasant and Arousal-Calm). The scale is intended for use with Adults.

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = XX (Definitely do not feel), 2 = X (Do not feel), 3 = V (Feel a little), 4 = VV (Definitely feel).
The scale includes 8 reverse-scored items to reduce acquiescence bias.
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from 16 to 64. Interpretation guidelines:
- Unpleasant Mood State: 16 – 39
- Pleasant Mood State: 40 – 64

Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Cronbach's alpha ranges from 0.76 to 0.83.
