Scale Overview
The China MSM Stigma Scale was developed by Centre for AIDS Prevention Studies (CAPS) (2008). It is designed to measure Homosexuality-related stigma. The scale is intended for use with Men who have sex with men (MSM).
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 10 items organized into 2 factors/subscales: Societal and Felt Stigma, Enacted Stigma.

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 0 = never, 1 = once or twice, 2 = a few times, 3 = many times.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 0 to 30. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Stigma Experience: 0 – 10
- Moderate Stigma Experience: 11 – 20
- High Stigma Experience: 21 – 30
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Not specified.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 3 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
