Scale Overview
The Emotional Cognitive Scale – ECS was developed by Wintre, M. G., & Vallance, D. D. A. (1993). It is designed to measure Children’s emotional comprehension, intensity, and valence. The scale is intended for use with Children.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 15 items organized into 5 factors/subscales: Angry, Happy, Sad, Scared, Loving.

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 0 = Not at all, 1 = A little bit, 2 = Medium, 3 = A lot, 4 = Very much.
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from 0 to 12. Interpretation guidelines:
- Subscale Score Range (0 to 12 per emotion): 0 – 12
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
