Scale Overview
The Spiritual Connection Questionnaire (SCQ-48) was developed by Wheeler, P. and Hyland, M. E. (2008). It is designed to measure Spiritual Connection. The scale is intended for use with Adults.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 48 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: -3 = Unlike me, -2 = -2, -1 = -1, 0 = 0, 1 = 1, 2 = 2, 3 = Like me.
The scale includes 24 reverse-scored items to reduce acquiescence bias.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from -144 to 144. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Spiritual Connection: -144 – -49
- Moderate Spiritual Connection: -48 – 48
- High Spiritual Connection: 49 – 144
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of High.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
