Scale Overview
The Students’ Life Satisfaction Scale – SLSS was developed by Huebner, E. S. (1991). It is designed to measure Global life satisfaction. The scale is intended for use with Children and adolescents (ages 8 and older).
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 7 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Strongly Disagree, 2 = Moderately Disagree, 3 = Mildly Disagree, 4 = Mildly Agree, 5 = Moderately Agree, 6 = Strongly Agree.
The scale includes 2 reverse-scored items to reduce acquiescence bias.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 7 to 42. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Life Satisfaction: 7 – 21
- Moderate Life Satisfaction: 22 – 35
- High Life Satisfaction: 36 – 42
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Acceptable internal consistency.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 5 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
