The Anxiety and Preoccupation about Sleep Questionnaire – APSQ was developed by Allison G. Harvey and Nicole Tang (2004). It is designed to measure Sleep-related worry. The scale is intended for use with Adults with insomnia or sleep disorders.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 10 items organized into 2 factors/subscales: Worries about the consequences of poor sleep, Worries about the uncontrollability of sleep.

Response Format

Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from 10 to 100. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low sleep-related worry: 10 – 39
- Moderate sleep-related worry: 40 – 69
- High sleep-related worry: 70 – 100
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Total scale α = .93, Factor 1 α = .91, Factor 2 α = .86.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 3 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
