The Body Sensations Interpretation Questionnaire – BSIQ was developed by David M. Clark, Paul M. Salkovskis, Lars-Göran Öst, Elizabeth Breitholtz, Karin A. Koehler, Björn E. Westling, Michael G. Gelder (1997). It is designed to measure Interpretation bias for bodily sensations. The scale is intended for use with Adults.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 27 items organized into 4 factors/subscales: Panic Body Sensations, General Symptoms, Social Events, Other Events.
| Factor / Subscale | Items | N |
|---|---|---|
| Panic Body Sensations | 1,6,8,14,19,22 | 6 |
| General Symptoms | 4,10,13,17,23,25,27 | 7 |
| Social Events | 3,5,9,11,12,15,18,21,26 | 9 |

Response anchors: 1 = Most likely to come to mind, 2 = Second most likely to come to mind, 3 = Least likely to come to mind.
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from 0 to 27. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low threat interpretation bias: 0 – 9
- Moderate threat interpretation bias: 10 – 18
- High threat interpretation bias: 19 – 27
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Good internal consistency and sensitivity to clinical change.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 15 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
