Scale Overview
The Perceived Family Burden Scale – PFBS was developed by J. E. Levene, W. J. Lancee, M. V. Seeman (1996). It is designed to measure Family Burden. The scale is intended for use with Family members and caregivers of individuals with schizophrenia.

This instrument consists of 24 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 0 = The behavior isn't present and doesn't bother the relative, 1 = The behavior is present and doesn't bother the relative, 2 = The behavior is present and bothers the relative 'a little', 3 = The behavior is present and bothers the relative 'considerably', 4 = The behavior is present and bothers the relative 'a great deal'.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
