The Index of Sexual Harassment – ISH was developed by Adrienne L. Decker, Walter W. Hudson (1993). It is designed to measure Sexual Harassment. The scale is intended for use with English-speaking populations aged 12 or older.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 19 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = None of the time, 2 = Very rarely, 3 = A little of the time, 4 = Some of the time, 5 = A good part of the time, 6 = Most of the time, 7 = All of the time.
Scoring
Items are summed.
Total scores range from 0 to 100. Interpretation guidelines:
- Below clinical threshold: 0 – 30
- Significant sexual harassment (above clinical threshold): 31 – 100
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Cronbach's alpha = .90.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 6 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
