The scale includes 26 reverse-scored items to reduce acquiescence bias.
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from 45 to 225. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low tolerance / Unfavorable attitudes: 45 – 105
- Moderate tolerance / Neutral attitudes: 106 – 165
- High tolerance / Favorable attitudes: 166 – 225
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Homosexuality: alpha = .95, Women: alpha = .64, IV Drug Abusers: alpha = .75, Nursing Care Concerns: alpha = .80, Social/Professional Issues: alpha = .82.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 20 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
