Scale Overview
The Feminine Gender Identity Scale for Males – Part A (FGIS-A) was developed by Kurt Freund, Ray Blanchard (1977). It is designed to measure Feminine Gender Identity. The scale is intended for use with Adult males.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 16 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 0 = 0 points, 1 = 1 point, 2 = 2 points.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 0 to 26. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Feminine Gender Identity: 0 – 8
- Moderate Feminine Gender Identity: 9 – 17
- High Feminine Gender Identity: 18 – 26
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of 0.93.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
