Scale Overview
The Dispositional Benign and Malicious Envy Scale (BeMaS) was developed by Jens Lange, Jan Crusius (2015). It is designed to measure Dispositional Envy. The scale is intended for use with Adults.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 10 items organized into 2 factors/subscales: Benign Envy, Malicious Envy.

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Strongly disagree, 2 = Disagree, 3 = Slightly disagree, 4 = Slightly agree, 5 = Agree, 6 = Strongly agree.
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from 5 to 30. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low: 5 – 12
- Moderate: 13 – 22
- High: 23 – 30
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 3 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
