Scale Overview
The Character Assessment Scale (CAS) was developed by Schmidt (1987). It is designed to measure Moral character traits and resources. The scale is intended for use with Adults.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 89 items organized into 8 factors/subscales: Truth, Respect, Concern, Anger, Money, Time and Energy, Sexuality, Bodily Health.

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a dichotomous True/False format.
The scale includes 22 reverse-scored items to reduce acquiescence bias.
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Cronbach's alpha ranged from 0.61 to 0.83 (average 0.75).
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 20 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
