Scale Overview
The Christian Fundamentalist Belief Scale – CFBS was developed by H. M. Gibson & L. J. Francis (1996). It is designed to measure Christian fundamentalist belief. The scale is intended for use with Adolescents and adults.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 12 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = disagree strongly, 2 = disagree, 3 = neutral, 4 = agree, 5 = agree strongly.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 12 to 60. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Fundamentalist Belief: 12 – 27
- Moderate Fundamentalist Belief: 28 – 44
- High Fundamentalist Belief: 45 – 60
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of 0.92.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 5 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
